Third graders are in a transition between primary grades and being “big kids”, so the pages in units 1-3 take that into account. The fonts are larger, the work spaces are larger, and there are fewer problems per page. From unit 4 on, each lesson gets a half-page of practice rather than a full page, and things get a little closer to what they can expect in fourth grade.
This can also be a great homework packet for ANY 3rd grade teacher wanting no-prep, easy-to-follow review work!
