Word problems are such a critical part of developing problem solving skills–but they aren’t easy for many students. This bundle of CGI word problems helps students tackle addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division at the basic level–understanding the different problem types of each operation. If your students struggle to know which operation to use, read on!
CGI, or ‘Cognitively Guided Instruction,’ is a problem-solving philosophy you may already be familiar with—especially if you’ve read about research on how children acquire mathematical understanding. If it’s new to you, I highly recommend digging in a bit—it’s truly fascinating!

Because students come to the table with a variety of skills, each problem has 3 different “select a size” number choices to help make the problem a perfect fit!
