Description
Division is a tricky concept for many students–and learning what to do with remainders makes it even more challenging. This set of 24 division task cards helps students think deeply about problems and learn how to interpret remainders.
The 24 problems included are split into two sections. Cards 1 – 12 are two digit numbers needing to be divided by a one digit number. These problems can be solved by using known facts, modeling with manipulatives, or drawing pictures. Each problem asks students to determine if there is a remainder–and how to answer the question accordingly.
Cards 13 – 24 continue the study of remainders–but use larger numbers that really require computation skills. Use to differentiate–or, like I do, use twice–once to build division concepts earlier in the year and then again later when we study the algorithm. Great for intervention groups as well!
Answers are included as are three rubrics to use to help in scoring the Standards for Mathematical Practice! Cards are included in both color and low-ink, black and white versions for ultimate flexibility. There are blank recording sheets that can be used for students to track their work, or they can simply do their work in a notebook. Watch for many other sets available on a variety of topics and at many grade levels.
