Theme and Event Reading Response Prompts for Any Fiction Text – Digital & Print

$5.00

Description

If you teach upper elementary, you know that reading comprehension and writing and speaking more deeply about texts is a critical part of literacy instruction. Finding quality reading response activities to address theme and other advanced reading comprehension skills can be a challenge!

Students need exposure to different genres and styles of writing and need practice talking and writing about books at a deep level…no matter WHAT book you want to use! We also need to plan for whole class shared reading experiences, book clubs, small group interventions, and more. Who has time to prep for all that?

This resource can save you so much time–and gives you 20 powerful discussion prompts to use all year long and in each of these classroom situations!

Having the prompts in multiple formats makes it even more valuable and allows you to use these questions over and over all year long. This set focuses on questions that address key events and theme—two critical, standards-based topics that can be particularly challenging for advancing readers.

Interested in having these guiding questions at your fingertips to use ALL YEAR LONG? Read on!

  • The 20 questions in this resource are presented in multiple formats to give you as much flexibility as possible. Plus, this allows you to use this resource over and over throughout the year in different ways, keeping it fresh and powerful for your students.
  1. Projectable slides so that your entire class can see and discuss the prompt.
  2. Table-top prompt “tents” so you can have small groups discuss or use at a small intervention group. (You could even have different prompts at each desk group and have students rotate!)
  3. Digital slides to send to students with space for written responses
  4. Printable, written response pages
  • Prompts are split into two categories—”as you read” and “after you read” to make sure you have plenty of questions to use both during the reading and as a culminating activity.
  • Questions are also split into categories by difficulty. Each category has questions that are called “key questions” which are at a more foundational level. “Thinker questions” push students to dig deeper into the text and do even more citing of text evidence. Use all the key questions, just the thinker questions, or a combination!

If you want to get your students thinking deeply about texts, this is a great starting point! Check the preview for details!
