Description

Help your students build a rock-solid understanding of fractions with this Identifying Fractions Math Pack—packed with fraction task cards, fraction practice activities, and fraction assessment tools designed to support mastery of the most basic fraction concept–identifying fractions of shapes, sets, and on number lines.

Identifying fractions across these different representations—shapes, number lines, and collections—is a critical foundation for all upper-elementary fraction work. Before students can compare fractions, find equivalent fractions, simplify fractions, or compute with fractions, they must be able to recognize what a fraction represents in multiple formats.

This resource gives you everything you need to teach, review, reteach, and assess this important concept. It’s perfect for fraction intervention, RTI, small-group instruction, special education, math centers, or for reinforcing fraction basics before you move into more complex skills.

Use the included task cards and activities to screen for misconceptions, provide targeted practice, and ensure students truly understand numerator/denominator relationships and how fractions are represented in different ways–critical foundations for the more challenging fraction work ahead!

If you’re looking for targeted fraction help, this Identifying Fractions Math Pack will help you make sure every student is ready to move on–and with no prep needed. I’ve taken care of that for you! Make sure to check out the preview to see the different components.

What do you get?

  • A set of increasingly challenging task cards: These 24 cards are perfect for projecting (full size) to use as warm ups or to send digitally. They are also included 4 per page to use as printable task cards for review games, math centers, partner work, or more!
  • Two practice sheets: Use these sheets after you teach for students to practice the skill—either alone or in pairs. These pages can also be used as homework if needed. “FORM A” has simpler problems and then “FORM B” boosts the challenge a bit.
  • Two formative assessments: These two assessments are quick snapshots of student progress and can help you decide who is on track and who needs more coaching. They are half pages, so they are low-ink and easy to score.
  • Two summative assessments: These are full-page assessments with more problems at a range of difficulty levels. They will allow you to see which students are struggling with different levels of performance to give you guidance on how to help them achieve mastery.
  • Recording sheets (teacher and students): I’ve included a recording form for students to do their work and record their answers for the task cards if you choose to use them. I have also included a recording form for YOU to use to note which students need coaching/review and a place to take notes on when you meet with them and what you notice. Perfect for RTI!
  • Answer keys: No worries—all answers are included.

And don’t forget–you can use these as printable resources or digitally!

My Math Skill Packs are perfect to enhance your math program, to use as additional help for intervention groups, or to provide additional practice on needed skills. I hope you find them useful!
